Bio
Michiel Brouns, originally from the Netherlands, began his professional journey as a surveyor specializing in historic buildings. In 2006, he moved to the UK, where he founded Histoglass Ltd, a company focused on providing bespoke insulating glazing solutions for heritage properties.
Leveraging the success of Histoglass, Michiel launched Brouns & Co over a decade ago, with a mission to revive the use of traditional linseed paint. His expertise has contributed to the preservation and restoration of iconic sites, including The Old War Office, Woburn Abbey, Chatsworth House, Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, Mount Vernon, and Poplar Forest.
As a recognized authority on linseed paint—covering its historical significance, production techniques, and contemporary uses—Michiel regularly presents to architects and conservation professionals across the UK and North America. He has delivered lectures for esteemed organizations such as RIBA-USA, AIA at the British Consulate in Boston, and RIBA-New York, and is a frequent speaker at conferences focused on the preservation of historic windows.
In May 2023, Michiel further established his expertise with the publication of his book, Linseed Paint & Oil – A Practical Guide to Traditional Production and Application.
