Joe is the owner of Compass Preservation in Kent, Ohio, formerly the lead craftsperson at Western Reserve Preservation Company in Medina Ohio, and a museum professional, managing the Preservation and Maintenance departments at Hale Farm & Village, a living history museum in Bath, Ohio. He holds an AAS in Building Preservation/Restoration from Belmont College (2016), and a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Columbus College of Art & Design (2001). Joe began learning about traditional tools and methods as a teen, working for his dad’s furniture repair business, and hopes to find ways to share his knowledge of traditional trades to inform others of the value of saving historic structures. Joe has a particular interest in practical geometry, for it’s value in design as well as its specific implications in historic structures.
Since his first IPTW in 2014 in St. Clairsville, Joe has attended IPTWs in Berryville (2016), Detroit (2017), Frederick (2018), St. Clairsville (2022), and Frederick (2023). He has enjoyed the many friendships he’s made through PTN so far, and has joyously welcomed fellow members to give workshops at Hale Farm in 2018 and 2019. He continues to seek new ways to improve and use his knowledge and ability, and will always be in awe of the excellent stewards of the Preservation Trades he continues to meet through PTN.
