Chuck Jones is a Stonemason from Carnoustie, Scotland. Charles studied his apprenticeship in Edinburgh as a Banker and Fixer Mason while apprenticed to Historic Environment Scotland. From 2000 to 2006 Chuck worked for Durham Cathedral in England, carrying out works to the Chapel of the Nine Alters, Prebend’s Bridge, the Library and College Estate. In 2005, he returned to work with Historic Environment Scotland. In 2006 Charles was awarded The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (The SPAB) William Morris Craft Fellowship. Since 2010 Charles was the HES Training Manager for Stonemasonry helping to set up and establish a state-of-the-art Stonemasonry Training Facility in Stirling Scotland and is the Training location for Historic Scotland’s Building Conservation Centre, The Engine Shed. Charles now works in Technical Education and Training on a variety of skills and training development projects. He recently led on the development of a new qualification in Scotland covering survey, inspection and recording of built conservation assets. Charles’ Qualifications and experiences cover, Banker/Fixer Stonemasonry, Letter Cutting, Auto-CAD, Construction Management, Masonry Conservation and Further Education & Training (Scotland).
